Moisturizing is the first step to any nice make-up routine. "You want to hydrate it so that the makeup can go smoothly, and the best way is to prepare it with a moisturizer," tells Kandee Johnson, a makeup guru. "I enjoy the Dramatically Different Moisturizer from Clinique. They create two formulas, one for dry skin and one for oily skin.

Step 2: Hide Circles of Dark

Start with your undereye circles using concealer. Try a creamy formula in a color that suits your skin tone, like Laura Mercier Secret Concealer. "It is a myth to choose a shade lighter," she suggests. "Under your eyes, white circles look like you've been wearing goggles while tanning." Apply with a pointed concealer brush in small stripes. Then mix for the lightest contact with your ring finger and do not tug on sensitive undereye regions, advises makeup artist Ana Marie Rizzieri, who produced the look in these pictures.

  • Expert advice: Use the point of your brush to get on good lines and always consider pressing the item into the skin instead of rubbing or brushing it on.

Step 3: Perfect base for you

"The most time you spend on making your skin look flawless should be spent in your makeup routine, which will give you the greatest look. You can have a great smokey eye, but if your skin is blotchy or red it just doesn't look as good as it could," Johnson suggests.

Use a foundation stick to get even the skin completely quick. It's simple and provides you accurate implementation in abundance. We like Stick from the Bobbi Brown Foundation
Try the method of Rizzieri: use the stick as a gigantic marker, draw dense lines down the cheekbones, the sides of your nose, and mix with your fingers. Would you like to look a little sun-kissed? Use a second stick that is two or three shades lighter for a streak-free glow in all the same locations before mixing (it looks dark in the images, but we guarantee it will melt straight in). Use your fingers to mix both colors over your face and down your throat— the heat from your hands will warm up the basis and assist it flow.

  • Expert tip: Rub moisturizer on your hands before you blend for a sheer, dewy finish if you want lighter coverage.

Step 4: Disguise Blemishes

If an embarrassing zit or mark is still poking through, go back and conceal it with an additional concealer layer. Use the same type as in step one (it worked for the front scratch of our model) or attempt a cover-up containing salicylic acid, such as Almay Clear Complexion Concealer, which helps to reduce blemishes while camouflage.
"Down the concealer with a sponge and be sure to conceal all the dimensions of the blemish. If it's really red, make sure it matches the rest of your face and put it in powder until it's matt around," Johnson says. Making the matt defect is essential, as any shine or highlight will exaggerate the size of a defect. Try the Translucent Loose Setting Powder from Laura Mercier, an absolute favorite among all makeup artists.

"You shouldn't have to pick it up for several hours if you set it correctly," Johnson suggests. However, if oil raises its head all day long, she advises using Blotterazzi, a flattened beauty blender that pushes your makeup into location while absorbing oil. She prefers this to blotting sheets on a periodic basis, which can remove oil and product. On the other side, Blotterazzi only drinks oil and leaves your makeup intact.

  • Expert tip: Johnson advises trying a spot solution before applying the concealer. "I like using a product that has salicylic acid to treat a defect— it's going to seal off the pimple," Johnson suggests. "Products such as Origins ' Super Spot Remover basically make a seal on top of the pimple. The acne will look better when you wash off your face."

Step 5: Infuse the color of your cheeks

Forget to sculpt and shade cheekbones with a brush and powder, and instead attempt a cream blush for that glow-from-within impact. Apply to your cheeks ' apples as seen here. (The quick way to discover yours: Smile!) Then mix with your fingers the color up to your temples. Our select: (Yves Saint Laurent in Rouge Passion No. 6 Creme de Blush. Bright, bold shades like the berry color used on our model may look natural, but if you're color-shy, gradually layer it on to construct the intensity.

  • Tip for the expert: Gone overboard? Defuse a clown-like scenario by applying some basis over top rather than washing everything off and beginning from scratch.

Step 6: Apply Eye Base Shimmery

Apply a wash of sheer, shimmering cream shadow from lash lines to brow bones using your pointer finger for pro-looking eye makeup in no moment. Try Copper Canyon's Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow that comes with all the colors you need to build this look. (Bonus: Shimmer helps to hide stray eyebrow hairs if you don't have time to tweeze!) If your skin is fair, attempt a silver white shade like our model. Choose instead a champagne color for medium to dark skin tones. Also do the color on the internal edges of your eyes to get an additional bright-eyed impact. Celebs are constantly using this trick on the red carpet, says Rizzieri.

  • Expert advice: If your lids tend to be on the oilier side, first use an all-around primer to assist the last eye shadow.

Step 7: Pop your eyes

Next, to offer more depth to the eyes, use bronze and gold cream shadows (both are in the same Revlon palette). Use a flat shadow brush to apply the bronze color in your creases and use your fingers to smudge it over the lids. There should be no rough lines or color stripes, Rizzieri says; it should look mixed and effortless.

Set the cream with a corresponding powder eyeshadow to create everything budge-proof (essential with creamy formulas such as these). Whether you're looking for a fundamental everyday look or a full-on glam, it's essential to think about pushing eyeshadow into the lid instead of sweeping it over. Pressing the eye shadow in will build pigment evenly and prevent eyeshadow from falling onto your face. This is one of the greatest makeup tips for Johnson and every moment makes your eyeshadow app look like a pro did it.

Finally, to make your eyes look even larger, rub some shadow of gold cream onto your lids ' centers and run with your finger or a tiny brush a little along your lower lash lines.

  • Expert advice: Using gold under the eyes feels bright while darker shades can attract attention to circles under the eye.

Step 8: Add a certain definition

Rim your upper lash lines with a brown liner pencil for more intensity and smudge it with your shadow brush upwards.
Then put in the past step with the same powder eyeshadow. Complete on top and bottom with two mascara coats, like Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara — focusing on the outer eyelids with the top of the wand.

  • Expert advice: Use an eyelash curler before applying mascara to give the eyes an even larger boost. Start as close as possible to the roots of your lashes and pulse the curler slightly forward to the ends.

Step 9: Upgrade your browsing

"Your eyebrows are the greatest difference makers. They can alter your whole face," Johnson suggests. Lightly fill in any holes and brush the hair with a disposable mascara wand. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is the go-to brow product of Johnson.

  • Expert tip: Instead of using dense lines, use various tiny strokes to produce a complete, natural brow using your natural brow shape as a guide.

Step 10: Get Lush Lips

Before applying any item, the chapped lips are softened by softly buffing them with a wet washcloth and a lip balm follow-up. If it feels slippery, let it sink in well and blot with a tissue. Then dab on a strawberry-colored lipstick, such as Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick in Very Cherry, for a less-is more look. Apply it to your mouth middle (make a kissy face!), where first color tends to wear off, Rizzieri suggests. Mix the lipstick with your fingertips over your lips, rubbing on the color to assist last. "This provides you a new look that just-at-a-popsicle," she suggests. Add a layer of gloss for extra shine or go for a bolder lipstick to amplify things for the night.

  • Expert tip: If you're going to rock a bolder lip, attempt Johnson's pro tip: apply concealer throughout your lips before applying your lipstick. It will not only knock out any natural color that changes the lipstick's general hue, it will make your lipstick last for hours. As with an eyelid, lightly dab the concealer with a sponge or fingers on your lips. Blot with tissue, apply lip liner throughout, dust on translucent powder, and follow up with another blot before applying lipstick.
